Rustic Lodge - Okinaga-an
The 400-year-old Okinaga-an was painstakingly disassembled and transported from Gifu to Kamakura, where it was reassembled and fully renovated for comfort and convenience.
Elegant sliding doors make it easy to convert the spacious tatami area into four bedrooms, while the upstairs loft accommodates two more guests.
The lodge preserves a wealth of traditional elements, including a round window framing a serene mountain view, an old-fashioned rice mill, and clay stoves. Dark woodwork, intricate transoms, and soft lighting combine to create a warm atmosphere—perfect for reminiscing or allowing your thoughts to drift.
Best of all, the engawa—an extended wooden veranda—is the ideal spot to linger and enjoy our tranquil garden.
Our traditional Samurai breakfast is served here, and guests are always welcome to stop by for a cup of tea and a friendly chat.
Samurai Breakfast
Served at the irori hearth in Okinaga-an, our Samurai breakfast offers a taste of history, reminiscent of the nourishing meals once enjoyed by samurai during the Edo period. This simple yet hearty spread provided the strength and energy needed to serve their lord.
We take pride in using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients—Kamakura’s renowned bounty of fresh vegetables—to craft a delicious array of dishes, including rice, miso soup, fish, and more, thoughtfully prepared to delight your palate and honor the rich culinary tradition of the region.
Additional Dining Options
Exquisite bento boxes and private dinners can be arranged with local chefs or caterers upon request.
We are also happy to make suggestions and reservations for local restaurants—Kamakura offers a wonderful range of cuisines, from traditional Japanese dishes such as elegant kaiseki and sushi to international fare like Italian, French and Indian.
